Woodlands Conservation Bylaw
The updated Oxford County Woodlands Conservation Bylaw has been approved
Oxford County initiated a review of the Woodlands Conservation Bylaw in September 2016 and undertook extensive consultation with the public, stakeholders and local municipalities, using information gathered through five public information sessions, meetings and presentations, along with input through the County’s social media feeds to create a better Woodlands Conservation Bylaw and improve the administration and customer service activities associated with the implementation of the Bylaw.
County Council held a public meeting on May 23, 2018 to consider the new Woodlands Conservation Bylaw and approved the new document on June 27, 2018.
Why is the bylaw important?
The Woodlands Conservation Bylaw is recognized as an important tool with respect to retaining and enhancing woodlands in Oxford.The Bylaw identifies woodlands and sets out definitions for the purpose of protecting trees.It also identifies tree species to be protected; sets out the requirements for obtaining permits to harvest trees; and outlines the provisions regarding enforcement and penalties.
The Woodlands Conservation Bylaw is important because it helps Oxford County to:

Conserve and improve woodlands through good forestry practices

Protect, promote and enhance the value of woodlands for social, economic and environmental value

Enhance biodiversity and forest resilience that will assist the community in adapting to climate change and other environmental threats to forest health

Woodlands Conservation By-law 6035-2018 is now in effect and the previous By-law (approved in 2004) has been repealed.
Residents with further comments are still encouraged to submit feedback on the approved bylaw at any time.
