Businesses Waste Management

Businesses located on an existing residential collection route are able to participate in the curbside collection program as long as they meet the following set-out requirements:

  • garbage tagged with bag tags;
  • cardboard broken down and bundled - 75cm x 75cm x 20cm and 20kg max weight;
  • blue box materials;
  • set-outs not exceeding 20 kg.

Oxford County’s waste management program works with Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) customers to provide services that help them reduce the amount of waste they send to landfill. The Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks requires the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) sector to do their part to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible.

For more information and resources, visit the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks's IC&I Waste Reduction website

The Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) sector is encouraged to utilize the County's specialty recycling depots located at the Oxford County Waste Management Facility (landfill).

Waste Reduction

General waste reduction tips:

  • Know what materials and how much you are generating, and have a plan of action on how to reduce your overall waste
  • Talk to the local chamber of commerce (Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, Norwich and Tavistock) on opportunities for waste materials exchange
  • Educate your employees on waste reduction and resource efficiency
  • Start a “green team” at work to promote sustainable, cost effective solutions to workplace issues and waste reduction
  • Use signage at recycling stations – simple with pictures for quick comprehension
  • Pass waste reduction cost savings onto employees through staff programs, rewards, or other incentives to reduce waste
  • Track your success and failures and communicate these with staff
  • Install a composter or green cone at work to handle organic waste
  • Talk to your private garbage hauler about switching to charging by weight instead of by each service. This provides an incentive to reduce how much waste is put in the bins
  • Put a lock on your bins to reduce the cost of illegal dumping from unauthorized use of your bin
  • Reuse packaging, including film and cardboard boxes, for internal uses and external shipping
  • Start a reuse center in the office for old office supplies and personal items that staff can use in the office or at home
  • Give old office equipment away to second hand organizations, some of which can give tax receipts to the donating organization
