News from Future Oxford: 2018 Progress Report released

The 2018 Progress Report outlines an active year of building, engaging and inspiring communities to create a vibrant, sustainable future

Together with partner organizations and volunteers, Future Oxford had an active year of progress towards Future Oxford Community Sustainability Plan goals. The 2018 Progress Report summarizes the various Future Oxford projects, partnerships and events from the year and demonstrates how they contributed to the community, economy and environment goals that are the foundation of the sustainability plan.

Key 2018 achievements include:

  • A Profile of Wellbeing in Oxford County,” a Canadian Index of Wellbeing report that builds on the 2016 Oxford County Community Wellbeing Survey and final report. The profile offers insight into the County’s level of wellbeing and what residents consider to be important relative to other parts of the province and other Canadians;
  • Working together to build a stronger workforce & grow economic prosperity in Oxford,” a report that offers a framework to help achieve the economy goals of the Community Sustainability Plan;
  • Strides towards zero waste that have inspired local groups and organizations to set their own zero waste goals to help the County achieve its zero waste goal;
  • Speaker Series events that allowed residents and businesses to connect with and learn from experts in fields such as electric vehicles, energy-saving programs and sustainable entrepreneurship.

Additional information about these achievements and many others can be found in the Future Oxford Partnership 2018 Progress Report. More information about the Future Oxford Partnership, its initiatives and the Community Sustainability Plan is available at www.futureoxford.ca.

Reviewing progress from the year is also a time to look forward. In 2019, Future Oxford will continue to take responsibility for the development of a vibrant, prosperous and responsible Oxford for all. Priorities for the upcoming year will be to promote democratic engagement by encouraging voting in the federal election; support Oxford County’s path to zero waste by exploring new technologies that divert from landfill; and work to fulfill the community’s strategy for ensuring a viable and supported work force.

Now in entering its fourth year, the Future Oxford Community Sustainability Plan will undergo a refresh and recommitment in 2019 though consultation with local municipal councillors and senior staff, community partners and groups, and local residents.
