Public Notice: Notice of Construction Victoria Street, Norwich
(Main Street - Brock Street)
Oxford County has awarded a contract to Viewcon Construction Ltd. to complete a road reconstruction project in the Town of Norwich. Victoria Street, from Main Street to North Court Street, will undergo full road reconstruction, which includes new storm sewers, watermain, curb & gutter, sidewalk, road base, and repaving. Victoria Street from North Court Street to Brock Street will undergo a partial reconstruction which includes watermain replacement and repaving.
Construction is expected to begin in May 2022
Traffic control
Victoria Street, from Main Street to Brock Street, will be closed to through traffic but open to local traffic only, as required to accommodate the reconstruction. Residents within the construction limits will be able to access their property; however, there may be short periods when the construction crews are working immediately in front of a driveway when access may temporarily be restricted. County staff and the Contractor will make every reasonable effort to maintain access for residents and businesses within the active construction zone.
Emergency services, school boards and buses
Emergency services, school boards and buses will be notified of all road closures and lane restrictions.
Garbage and recycling
On garbage and recycling collection days, continue to place your garbage and recycling out at the roadside as usual. The Contractor will be responsible for collecting garbage and recycling and moving it to a central area for pick up when access is restricted in certain areas. Please mark your house number on garbage and recycling containers to ensure they are returned to the correct address.
Water interruptions
Residents within the work area can expect both planned and unplanned water interruptions. Every attempt will be made to notify customers in advance. A temporary potable water system will be installed as required to maintain safe and clean drinking water service to residents during the replacement of the existing system.
Pre-condition survey
Affected property owners will be asked to book and accommodate a pre-construction condition survey with Viewcon Construction’s assigned subcontractor. A pre-construction condition survey is similar to a building inspection and will involve a technician recording the existing conditions of the interior and exterior of buildings and surrounding property. This survey will help protect all parties in the event that a claim for property damage due to construction operations is filed.
