Oxford Reads selection for 2022 is “Driven: the secret lives of taxi drivers”
Oxford residents are invited to join the County-wide book club, featuring Calgary-born author Marcello Di Cintio
Oxford County Library (OCL) and Woodstock Public Library (WPL) are proud to announce the 2022 selection for Oxford Reads, “Driven: the secret lives of taxi drivers.”
The book explores immigration experiences, struggles, survival and perseverance. Canadianauthor Marcello Di Cintio did extensive research for this title. The book features interviews with taxi drivers from across North America with diverse backgrounds ranging from the Iraqui National Guard, to the Westboro Baptist Church, to an arranged marriage that left one woman in a foreign country. Driven is a funny and heartwarming book of short stories that will make you laugh, make you cry and give you a better understanding of the people who drive us around.
Driven was selected by Oxford County residents during a voting process this spring, rising above four titles featuring Canadian authors. OCL and WPL are excited to launch a number of fun programs around the Oxford Reads selection this fall, culminating with the Oxford Reads Gala, which will once again be hosted by the CBC’s Chris dela Torre. The virtual Gala is free to attend and guests will be able to get insights directly from the author, with a chance for a Q&A afterwards. Tickets for the Oxford Reads Gala will be available on Eventbrite, with more details coming in September.
Oxford County Library branches and the Woodstock Library have extra copies of the book on hand. You can check out the hard copy or download it on your e-reader with your library card.
